Silicon Photonics Technology Development and Integration Engineer — 2027 New College Graduate

Role Summary

Join the 300mm technology development integration team at GlobalFoundries Fab 8 in Malta, NY. The role owns silicon photonics process integration modules from development and qualification through customer engagement and production.

The engineer will monitor technology performance, design experiments and analyze technical data to improve yield, process stability (Cp/Cpk), defectivity, quality, cost, and delivery.

Experience Level

Entry-level — new college graduate program. Intended for recent graduates (0–2 years professional experience) joining a full-time development role.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include development, qualification, and production support for silicon photonics process integration.

  • Own a silicon photonics integration module: prioritize projects, coordinate with extended teams, define experiments, and manage hardware disposition.
  • Develop and qualify process flows and I/O integration solutions with device, process, packaging, test, reliability, yield, and manufacturing teams.
  • Analyze inline and electrical data to detect line issues, reduce defectivity, and improve process stability, yield, and efficiency.
  • Support new production technologies and customer milestones; drive cost reductions through process convergence and yield improvements.
  • Define and execute improvement experiments (DOE/SPC-style studies) and interpret results to implement corrective actions.
  • Perform work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

  • Fluent English (written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills; ability to interpret technical and manufacturing data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and teamwork in cross-functional settings.
  • Willingness to work in a semiconductor manufacturing environment and follow safety procedures.

Nice-to-have:

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in semiconductors or related fields.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), or structured problem-solving methods.
  • Coursework, research, or project experience in silicon photonics, optics, semiconductor processing, device physics, or process integration.
  • Project management, planning, and organizational skills; interest in leveraging AI tools to improve productivity.

Education Requirements

Graduating with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Solid State Physics, or a related technical field from an accredited program. Minimum overall GPA 3.0. Coursework or research experience in silicon photonics, optics, semiconductor processing, device physics, or process integration is preferred.
