AppleJob Title
Silicon Photonics Process Integration Engineer
Role Summary
Join Apple's Biophotonics silicon photonics group to develop and integrate next-generation silicon photonic integrated circuits. The role is hands-on and combines technical execution of process development with cross-functional coordination and program tracking.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career (early-career engineer).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on process integration, vendor execution, and program management for a silicon photonics platform.
- Translate design and test requirements into process specifications and execution plans with design, PDK, and test teams.
- Plan and run process development with external vendors, including DOE, wafer planning, data review, and decision-making.
- Track schedules, deliverables, and open issues across multiple parallel workstreams and drive items to closure.
- Create and maintain clear process documentation for the silicon photonics platform.
Requirements
Core skills and experience expected for successful performance in this role.
- Must-have: Practical experience in semiconductor or photonics process development or equivalent practical experience.
- Must-have: Ability to design experiments (DOE) and analyze process data to inform decisions.
- Must-have: Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and manage schedules, deliverables, and open issues.
- Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: Hands-on cleanroom fabrication experience (lithography, thin-film deposition, etch, metrology).
- Nice-to-have: Research background in photonic devices or integrated photonics.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with post-fab processes such as wafer thinning, singulation, or packaging.
- Nice-to-have: Experience working with external fabs, vendors, or shared cleanroom facilities.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree (BS) required. Preferred: PhD, or MS with equivalent research experience, in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical/research experience.
