Job Title

Silicon Photonic (SiPh) Test Engineer

Role Summary

Work on development and execution of wafer- and module-level test solutions for silicon photonics (SiPh) and photonic integrated circuits (PIC) supporting data center and high-performance computing markets. The role is part of the GF SiPh test engineering team and focuses on hands-on test, cross-functional coordination, and process handoff into high-volume manufacturing.

Experience Level

Mid-level: requires at least 2 years of relevant experience (calibration, de-embedding, or lab test work); 4+ years preferred for several responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Primary operational and technical responsibilities on the SiPh test floor and in support of manufacturing ramp.

  • Provide hands-on technician/engineering support for wafer- and module-level SiPh test solutions using GF proprietary and commercial ATE equipment.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute test processes, fixtures, and procedures for high-speed photonic ICs.
  • Perform calibration and de-embedding for EE, EO, and OE measurements and validate measurement integrity.
  • Interface with internal teams (Finance, Procurement, Logistics, Test equipment, Safety, Facilities) to enable efficient SiPh lab operations and silicon flow.
  • Support transfer of development solutions into high-volume manufacturing (HVM) and collaborate with internal or 3rd-party OSAT partners to drive yield improvements.
  • Operate and troubleshoot lab instruments (lasers, optical power meters, SMUs, PNAs, polarizers, fiber probes) and diagnostic software.
  • Perform all work following Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Strong hands-on engineering and debugging skills; familiarity with photonic lab equipment (lasers, optical power meters, polarizers, fiber handling).
  • 2+ years experience in calibration and de-embedding techniques for EE, EO, and OE measurements.
  • 2+ years experience driving development solutions into manufacturing (HVM).
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and MS Office; demonstrated analytical skills and self-accountability.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, ability to work cross-functionally, and English fluency (written and verbal).
  • Work safely and comply with EHS&S programs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with SMUs, PNAs, PCB/Cadence/SolidWorks, scripting/programming for automation and data analysis (Python, C/C++, Smalltalk), and prior project leadership or project management experience.

Education Requirements

Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience) is listed as required. Preferred: BSc in Electrical Engineering. Fields referenced: Electrical/Electronic Engineering and photonics-related technical backgrounds.
