Silicon Packaging Engineer - Intern & New Grad
Role Summary
Join the Silicon Packaging team to develop co-packaged optics and photonic engines for AI data center infrastructure. The team works across electrical, mechanical, optical, and thermal domains to move concepts into production.
This role is available as an internship or full-time new grad position; you will work on real engineering problems and contribute to design, simulation, integration, and reliability efforts.
Experience Level
Entry-level - internship or new graduate (students pursuing or recently completed degrees; suitable for undergraduate and graduate new hires).
Responsibilities
Work may include one or more of the following focus areas depending on background:
- Perform signal and power integrity analysis for high-speed interfaces (PCIe, UCIe, SerDes), PDN design and simulation, and interpret S-parameters, eye diagrams, and jitter.
- Conduct thermal engineering tasks: CFD simulation, heat sink and TIM evaluation, liquid cooling and package-level thermal analysis.
- Support mechanical and thermo-mechanical design: tolerance stack-up, GD&T, FEA, solder fatigue, and CTE mismatch analysis.
- Contribute to packaging integration work: 2.5D/3D packaging, fiber attach, heterogeneous integration, assembly yield, and reliability testing.
- Develop and run simulations, test plans, and data analysis to validate designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, mechanical, optical, manufacturing) to drive designs toward production readiness.
- Document results, maintain design records, and support transfer to manufacturing.
Requirements
Core practical skills and behaviors expected:
- Hands-on experience through coursework, capstone projects, research labs, or prior internships demonstrating practical engineering work.
- Familiarity with at least one relevant tool: SolidWorks, ANSYS, ADS, Cadence, Python, MATLAB, or similar.
- Ability to perform analysis, run simulations, and interpret results quantitatively.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Capacity to comply with U.S. export control laws and related requirements.
Education Requirements
Pursuing or recently completed a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
