Silicon Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Senior IP design engineer responsible for IP-level architecture, RTL design, delivery, and signoff for mainstream AMD products. Work includes specification, RTL coding, verification collaboration, backend handoff, and silicon validation.
Position is on the IP design team in Penang and involves close collaboration with global SoC and IP architects, verification teams, and firmware/software partners.
Experience Level
Senior — generally expects 15+ years of experience in RTL design, micro-architecture, and architecture definition.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership and delivery of IP features and collaboration across engineering teams.
- Define and contribute to IP architecture and specifications.
- Implement and maintain RTL (Verilog) for assigned IP features.
- Deliver RTL to schedule and support design signoff.
- Collaborate with verification, backend, firmware/software, and system architects to ensure system compliance and integration.
- Support silicon bring-up and validation activities.
- Trace and resolve design issues across teams and versions; ensure reusability and scalability of IP.
- Mentor and coordinate with other designers and stakeholders to improve IP quality and team capability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience, plus preferred skills listed separately.
- Proven ASIC/SoC design experience with hands-on Verilog RTL development.
- Strong scripting experience (e.g., Perl) for automation and design tasks.
- Experience designing complex hub/control IP blocks and delivering production-quality RTL.
- Strong problem-solving, independent thinking, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with global architects, verification, backend, and validation teams.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Familiarity with AXI and PCIe protocols.
- Knowledge of x86 system architecture and experience with hardware/software/firmware co-operation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
