Job Title

Silicon Architecture Graduate Intern

Role Summary

Work with silicon architects and engineering teams to define and evaluate processor/ISA features, hardware/firmware interfaces, and platform specifications. The role supports early-stage feasibility, performance evaluation, and specification development for silicon projects.

As an intern you will perform hands-on analysis and experiments on prototype compilers, simulators, and silicon to inform architectural decisions and validate performance targets.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for graduate students (master's or PhD) or candidates with equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include architecture-level analysis, performance evaluation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Contribute to definition and architecture of silicon solutions across hardware, firmware, and platform specifications.
  • Perform modeling and simulation to analyze performance, power, and feature trade-offs across subsystems.
  • Collaborate with architects, design engineers, and validation teams to support feasibility and specification development.
  • Run benchmarks on prototype compilers using silicon and performance simulators; employ tracing techniques.
  • Analyze instruction-level breakdowns and patterns; perform regression analysis and debugging of performance issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills are listed below; preferred skills are noted separately.

Must-have:

  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming.
  • Experience with high-level modeling of CPU cores, core components (for example caches), or full systems.
  • Assembly language programming, code generation, or other low-level software experience.
  • Experience with benchmarking, tracing, or performance analysis tools.

Nice-to-have:

  • Research publications or strong research experience in computer architecture.
  • Familiarity with x86 architecture, compiler internals, and low-level software optimization.
  • Experience with prototype compilers, performance simulators, or related tooling.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a master’s degree (MS) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or enrolled in a PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, with graduate-level coursework and a major class project or thesis relevant to computer architecture; or equivalent practical work experience.
