Job Title
Signal Integrity / Power Integrity Engineer - Wearables
Role Summary
The Signal Integrity / Power Integrity (SIPI) Engineer will lead system-level SI/PI design, simulation, and validation for wearable hardware products. You will work with cross-functional teams (silicon, EE design, PCB layout, and vendors) to deliver robust, manufacturable designs from concept through production.
Experience Level
Mid-level — requires 6+ years of experience in SIPI simulation, measurement, or electrical design (system-level SI/PI work).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include simulation, lab validation, and cross-functional integration to ensure SI/PI performance and manufacturability.
- Perform signal integrity analysis across interfaces (MIPI CPHY/DPHY/MPHY, PCIe, USB, high-speed clocks) and balance system/product constraints.
- Execute pre-layout and post-layout simulation flows with emphasis on PDN (power delivery network) analysis and optimization.
- Create simulation models and develop SIPI simulation methodologies and automation where appropriate.
- Review stackups and assign layers for high-speed signals and PDN.
- Lead SIPI validation methodology, develop engineering test plans, and validate PDN impedance in the lab to correlate with simulation.
- Use simulation and measurement data to troubleshoot designs, drive failure analysis, root-cause resolution, and design of experiments.
- Analyze chip/package/PCB PDNs, make design trade-offs, and negotiate power budgets with partners.
- Provide clear design specifications, guidelines, and risk tradeoffs to cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Perform post-layout reviews and system SI design optimizations; generate simulation reports and communicate recommendations.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience followed by desirable qualifications.
-
Must-have: 6+ years of SIPI simulation, measurement, or electrical design experience in a relevant technical area.
- Strong understanding of EM fundamentals and hands-on experience with EM / SI/PI simulation tools, e.g., Cadence Sigrity, PowerDC, PowerSI, OptimizePI, Ansys SIwave, Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS, and 3D layout tools.
- Familiarity with PCB and flexible (FLEX) design and manufacturing processes.
- Experience delivering products into manufacturing and working with vendors on manufacturability.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing constrained solutions for high-volume consumer electronics and working from ambiguous requirements.
- Hands-on lab instrumentation experience (network analyzer, oscilloscope, signal generator) for measurements such as eye diagrams and power ripple/noise.
- Proven SI/PI design background with successful simulation and lab measurement outcomes.
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally on multiple projects and with external vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize workflows and improve efficiency or quality.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. A Master’s degree in those fields (or equivalent experience) is listed as preferred.
