Job Title

Signal Integrity Engineer

Role Summary

Member of Intel's Networking Solutions Group (NSG) responsible for defining, validating, and optimizing signal integrity (SI) across high-speed SerDes, boards, packages, and IBIS-AMI models for Ethernet and PCIe networking products.

Work includes simulation, analysis, and bench validation to ensure standards compliance, resolve technical issues, and improve product robustness for FNIC, IPU, and Ethernet-enabled SoC platforms.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical background: Bachelor's in a technical field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Master's with 2+ years.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver signal integrity solutions for large, complex high-speed boards and packages.
  • Develop die-to-die interconnect models; define SI rules and review implementation.
  • Document characterization and measurement reports for interconnects.
  • Perform simulations to evaluate SI tradeoffs and guide platform implementation.
  • Characterize test structures and correlate simulations with measurement data.
  • Perform conformance measurements and debug failures using bench instrumentation.
  • Provide implementation guidelines and platform design guidance to customers and partners.
  • Collaborate with IP design and silicon integration teams to meet product requirements.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Foundational signal and systems knowledge (time/frequency domain analysis, lumped vs distributed regimes, phase and amplitude concepts, dB units, RSS calculations).
  • Hands-on experience in signal integrity engineering, including bench work and measurement correlation.
  • Experience with computational tools such as Python (SciPy/NumPy), MATLAB, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work onsite regularly to fulfill essential job responsibilities.

Nice-to-have:

  • Time- and frequency-domain bench measurement experience and familiarity with VNAs and S-parameter (Touchstone) files.
  • Technical knowledge of Ethernet or PCIe standards; experience with SATA, USB, or DDR is beneficial.
  • Board layout and rules-checking experience (e.g., Cadence Allegro or similar).
  • Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, ANSYS HFSS, Keysight ADS, or internal SI tools.
  • Experience writing scripts to drive simulations and automate workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer, electrical, or systems engineering (or related technical field) with 3+ years of experience, or Master's degree in the same fields with 2+ years of experience. The posting specifies engineering degrees in computer, electrical, or systems engineering or a related technical discipline.
