Shift Process Integration Engineer (4 days on, 4 days off)
LumentumJob Title
Shift Process Integration Engineer (4 days on, 4 days off)
Role Summary
Junior Process Integration Engineer supporting Chip R&D and NPI for indium phosphide (InP)–based photonic devices at Lumentum's Caswell site. The role focuses on developing, integrating, and transferring wafer fabrication processes to production.
This is an on-site, shift-based position (4 days on, 4 days off) working closely with design, operations engineering, and manufacturing teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Junior - suitable for early-career engineers and recent graduates. Fresh PhD candidates are explicitly welcome; equivalent practical industry experience will also be considered.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve process integration, optimization, and transfer for InP-based photonic components.
- Integrate and scale wafer fabrication processes for new InP products (coherent and direct-detection components).
- Optimize processes to improve yield, cost, and cycle time.
- Develop and maintain process flows and documentation in the MES.
- Monitor product performance across development and transfer to production; provide post-transfer support.
- Use analytical tools (e.g., SEM) to investigate process issues and root causes.
- Develop new process modules and ensure manufacturability for high-volume production.
- Apply data analysis and Six Sigma techniques (FMEA, capability analysis, DFM/yield) to support process decisions.
- Present process data and statistical analyses to cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have practical skills and experience for day-one effectiveness. Education requirements are summarized below under Education Requirements.
- Hands-on experience with semiconductor wafer processing techniques; experience with III-V materials is preferred.
- Working knowledge in several process areas such as epitaxy, lithography, wet/dry etching, dielectric and metal deposition, ion implantation/diffusion.
- Experience in process integration and development of process flows and documentation (MES experience desirable).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to manage complex engineering tasks.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g., JMP) and presenting statistical data.
- Effective team collaboration, clear written and verbal communication, and ownership of technical deliverables.
- Nice-to-have: prior semiconductor manufacturing or wafer fab environment experience; knowledge of direct bandgap semiconductor materials.
Education Requirements
Degree in Physics, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical field is requested; relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Applications from recent PhD graduates are welcome. Equivalent practical experience accepted.
