Job Title
Senior VLSI CAD Engineer
Role Summary
Engineer on the CAD/EDA/HPC team responsible for developing and maintaining compute infrastructure that supports NVIDIA silicon design. The role focuses on managing job schedulers, integrating hybrid cloud resources, supporting CAD toolchains, and building automation to enable fast, reliable tapeout cycles.
Experience Level
Mid-level — 3–8 years of relevant hands-on experience in VLSI CAD infrastructure, EDA compute environments, or HPC system administration.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include operating and improving compute farms, integrating cloud resources, troubleshooting CAD tool performance, and developing automation.
- Manage and tune compute clusters and job schedulers (LSF and/or Slurm) on Linux.
- Integrate hybrid cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to elastically extend on-premises CAD capacity.
- Troubleshoot performance issues, benchmark CAD tools, and drive root-cause resolution for complex infrastructure problems.
- Develop and maintain automation frameworks using Python, Perl, Bash, or Tcl for job scheduling, monitoring, and reporting.
- Collaborate with build and design teams to optimize job efficiency, resource utilization, and capacity planning for tapeouts.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 3–8 years in VLSI CAD infrastructure, EDA compute environments, or HPC system administration.
- Production experience administering LSF or Slurm in multi-user environments.
- Strong Linux/Unix system administration skills.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language; Python preferred.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) covering compute, storage, networking, and cost basics.
- Familiarity with CAD/EDA tool flows (synthesis, place & route, simulation, DRC/LVS, or equivalent).
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills for ambiguous infrastructure issues under time pressure.
Nice-to-have:
- Infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform).
- Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Singularity).
- Parallel/distributed file systems (NFS, GPFS, Lustre).
- Version control systems (Git, Perforce) and CI/CD/monitoring stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, ELK).
Education Requirements
B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech/M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field. (The posting specifies degree-level education; no certifications were listed.)
