Applications Engineering Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Provide front-end technical support for synthesis and equivalence checking across customer tape-out projects. Support field engineers and customers, diagnose and resolve product issues, deliver trainings, and collaborate with development to improve Synopsys products.

Work directly with customers on tape-out execution and ensure successful integration of Synopsys EDA tools into customer flows.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Staff) — 6–8 years of hands-on experience in synthesis, formal verification, or tape-out project execution.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on customer-facing technical support, troubleshooting, training, and cross-team collaboration.

• Provide front-end support for synthesis and equivalence checking to field engineers, technicians, and product support personnel.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and debug complex hardware, software, and EDA tool workflows.
• Collaborate with customers to understand requirements and deliver tailored solutions for tape-out projects.
• Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for customers and internal teams.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and support materials.
• Work closely with development teams to identify and resolve product issues.

Core technical and practical skills required for successful performance in this role.

Must-have:

• 6–8 years of hands-on experience with tape-out project execution and customer support.
• Experience in synthesis and formal verification workflows and EDA tools (examples: DC, Formality, RTLA, Fusion Compiler).
• Strong understanding of ASIC design flow, VLSI concepts, and CAD development.
• Experience debugging and troubleshooting complex systems and EDA toolchains.
• Proficiency with scripting/programming languages such as C/C++, Perl, and Tcl.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective English communication.

Nice-to-have:

• Prior experience in customer-facing or applications engineering roles supporting tape-outs.
• Familiarity with additional EDA flows or automation tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
