Senior Thermal Application Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Senior Thermal Application Engineer
Role Summary
Lead application engineering for thermal, thermomechanical, and reliability simulation in power electronics. Work with customers to define die-to-board multiphysics workflows that couple electrical, thermal, and structural analysis, validate predictions against test data, and influence product roadmap and best practices.
Role Summary
Information not specified.
Experience Level
Senior - role aligns with senior-level responsibilities. The posting indicates an experienced hire (e.g., BS + 5+ years option) and expects demonstrated domain expertise.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include customer-facing engineering, workflow design, and technical enablement.
- Define customer simulation strategies and workflows for power electronics design and reliability.
- Develop die-to-board multiphysics workflows that couple electrical, thermal, and structural analysis across die, package, and PCB.
- Perform thermal-mechanical reliability analysis: convert mission profiles to junction temperature cycling and predict solder fatigue, wire-bond lift-off, and delamination.
- Lead technical evaluations and benchmarks on real designs to demonstrate measurable value.
- Correlate simulation results with power cycling and test data to validate models.
- Channel customer insights to R&D and shape the product roadmap and feature requests.
- Create best practices, application notes, and training materials to scale expertise internally and for customers.
- Support field and marketing activities by contributing technical content, case studies, and presentations at industry events.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional experience; education details are in the Education Requirements section below.
Must-have:
- Subject-matter expertise in power electronics and power devices (converters, modules, PMICs) and their reliability concerns.
- Practical experience with commercial EDA/CAE tools (circuit simulators, EM solvers, thermal/mechanical reliability tools).
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and workflow integration.
- Comfort working in Linux and managing complex multi-tool simulation flows.
- Ability to translate mission profiles into reliability predictions and correlate simulations with lab data.
- Fluent English communication (written and verbal) and ability to present to engineers and executives.
- Willingness to travel internationally and domestically up to ~25% (flexible based on customer needs).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience applying AI/ML or agentic AI to engineering simulation workflows.
- Prior industry experience in power converters, power modules, or power management IC design environments.
- Familiarity with scaling workflows for data-center power delivery, EV powertrains, or renewable energy power systems.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; OR BS with 5+ years of professional experience in engineering software or power electronics design. (No certifications specified.)
