Job Title

Senior Test Engineer, Hardware Compute Group

Role Summary

The Senior Test Engineer will lead post-silicon test, validation, and production test ramp for complex SoCs in the Devices Hardware organization. The role partners with design teams, manufacturing test contractors (OSAT), and test operations to define test programs, debug first-silicon issues, analyze yield, and drive corrective actions through production.

Team context: embedded in SOC development for Amazon Devices; responsible for NPI test readiness, yield improvement, and knowledge transfer to external test partners.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 10+ years of experience in semiconductor digital design, test, or product engineering for complex SoCs.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include first-silicon bring-up, test program development, and driving yield to production goals.

  • Lead first-silicon debug with design teams and OSAT test engineering.
  • Define and finalize wafer-sort and final-test program flows and methods to ensure adequate coverage and manufacturability.
  • Perform yield analysis across NPI phases; characterize product performance and manufacturing yield windows.
  • Identify root causes of yield loss using statistical analysis and failure analysis; implement corrective actions.
  • Drive reductions in test time and test cost while meeting product requirements and qualification targets.
  • Manage and coordinate with OSAT/test contractors during early production and sustainment.
  • Support test operations to deliver engineering samples and production volumes; transfer product knowledge to sustaining engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, followed by notable preferred skills.

  • Must-have: 10+ years experience in semiconductor digital design, test or product engineering for complex SoCs.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with SOC development cycles and multiple ASIC projects, including new product introduction from first silicon through qualification.
  • Must-have: Practical experience in yield analysis, statistical data analysis, and failure analysis techniques to drive corrective actions.
  • Must-have: Experience managing OSAT/test contractors and supporting production test operations.
  • Must-have: Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with ATE platforms (for example J750, Advantest 93K) and debug on automatic test equipment.
  • Nice-to-have: Chip design background (circuit or physical design, timing closure, power) or design verification experience for correlating SW signatures to block-level tests.
  • Nice-to-have: Post-silicon physical and logic debug experience (speed-path/Vmin, memory arrays, clocking, DFX features, scan/mem-dump analysis).
  • Nice-to-have: Product engineering familiarity with ATE coverage, margining, binning, and scan pattern generation.
  • Nice-to-have: Characterization experience with CPU, DDR4/LPDDR4/LPDDR5, USB, eMMC, CSI/DSI and MIPI interfaces.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science (or equivalent practical experience) is stated as required. A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is preferred. Fields mentioned include Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
