Job Title
Senior Test Engineer
Role Summary
The Dexterous AI Group seeks a Senior Test Engineer to lead characterization, qualification, and failure analysis of next-generation tactile sensing hardware for AI-driven dexterous manipulation. The role owns test workflows from prototype through validation and partners with electrical, mechanical, fabrication, and robotics teams.
Work hands-on with microelectronic fabrication processes, benchtop instruments, and failure-analysis tools to ensure sensor performance and reliability.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Lead and execute test and characterization activities for tactile sensors and devices:
- Design sensor characterization, testing, and qualification plans and processes.
- Perform sensor characterization, collect data, analyze results, and report findings and recommendations.
- Conduct failure analysis using techniques such as SEM, FIB, and EDS.
- Define, write, and maintain sensor specifications and datasheets.
- Develop automation for test and characterization using Python and LabVIEW.
- Build test fixtures and prototype hardware using basic CAD and 3D printing.
- Perform electrical benchtop measurements (oscilloscope, SMU, DAQ) for device bring-up, debug, and characterization.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate sensor and system requirements into test plans and specs.
Requirements
Required technical skills and hands-on experience:
- Experience with microelectronic device and sensor fabrication technologies.
- Hands-on experience designing sensor characterization, testing, and qualification workflows, including data analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with common benchtop instruments: oscilloscopes, source measure units (SMUs), and DAQs.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and test automation; experience with LabVIEW for instrument control.
- Working knowledge of basic CAD and prototyping tools, including 3D printers.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced lab environment; detail-oriented.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
Preferred:
- Experience with devices on flexible substrates (e.g., polyimide).
- Practical failure analysis experience (SEM, FIB, EDS).
- Experience authoring sensor specifications and datasheets.
- Background in tactile, force, or pressure sensing technologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related technical field.
