Job Title

Senior Test Engineer

Role Summary

The Dexterous AI Group at Analog Devices seeks a Senior Test Engineer to lead characterization, qualification, and failure analysis of tactile sensing hardware for AI-driven dexterous manipulation. The role owns test workflows from prototype to validation and partners with electrical, mechanical, fabrication, and robotics teams.

Position requires hands-on lab work with microelectronic processes, bench instrumentation, and occasional travel (~10%).

Experience Level

Senior. No specific years-of-experience specified.

Responsibilities

Deliver test and characterization processes, perform analysis, and support device validation.

  • Design sensor characterization, testing, and qualification plans for tactile sensors and devices.
  • Conduct sensor characterization, analyze data, and report findings and recommendations.
  • Perform failure analysis using techniques such as SEM, FIB, and EDS.
  • Define and author sensor specifications and datasheets.
  • Develop automation for characterization and test workflows using Python and LabVIEW.
  • Use CAD, 3D printing, and prototyping tools to build test fixtures and hardware.
  • Perform electrical benchtop measurements (oscilloscope, SMU, DAQ) for bring-up, debug, and characterization.
  • Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, fabrication, and AI/robotics teams to translate requirements into test plans.

Requirements

Core technical skills and hands-on lab experience required; preferred items listed separately.

  • Understanding of microelectronic device and sensor fabrication technologies.
  • Experience designing and executing sensor characterization, testing, and qualification processes.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and test automation.
  • Experience with LabVIEW for instrument automation.
  • Familiarity with common bench instruments: oscilloscopes, source measure units (SMUs), and DAQs.
  • Working knowledge of basic CAD and prototyping tools, including 3D printers.
  • Strong data-analysis skills to extract insights from characterization and FA data.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience handling flexible-substrate devices (e.g., polyimide).
  • Hands-on failure analysis (SEM, FIB, EDS).
  • Experience authoring sensor specifications and datasheets.
  • Background in tactile, force, or pressure sensing technologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related technical field (BS or MS specified in posting).
