Senior Test and Characterization Engineer — SiC Power Devices

Role Summary

Lead testing and electrical characterization activities for silicon carbide (SiC) power devices across development and qualification stages. Work with cross-functional teams (device design, process, reliability, and production) to define test plans, execute lab measurements, analyze data, and provide technical input for device optimization.

Operate and improve laboratory test setups, develop automated measurement routines, and translate measurement results into actionable recommendations for product and process improvements.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 7+ years of experience in semiconductor device test and characterization or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Define and execute electrical test and characterization plans for SiC power devices (static, dynamic, temperature-dependent measurements).
• Set up, calibrate, and maintain lab test equipment (parameter analyzers, curve tracers, pulse testers, thermal chambers, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts and data acquisition routines (e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB).
• Analyze measurement data, identify failure modes, and recommend corrective actions to design and process teams.
• Support reliability and qualification testing, including accelerated stress tests and lifetime projections.
• Document test procedures, prepare technical reports, and present results to stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with manufacturing to transfer test methods to production when required.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical skills:

• Must-have: Proven experience in semiconductor device electrical testing and characterization, ideally with power semiconductor devices or wide-bandgap materials.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment and setting up measurement chains for static and dynamic device characterization.
• Must-have: Proficiency in data analysis and scripting for test automation and post-processing (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).
• Must-have: Strong problem-solving skills and experience translating measurement results into device/process recommendations.
• Nice-to-have: Experience specifically with SiC MOSFETs or diodes, power electronics testing, high-voltage/pulse testing, or reliability qualification standards.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with statistical analysis methods, DOE, and production test transfer.
