Senior Technical Staff Engineer - Test

Role Summary

Senior test engineer responsible for developing ATE test programs and test hardware for timing and communications products (SyncE/1588 timing, clock distribution, frequency synthesizers). Role participates across product lifecycle from specification through volume manufacturing within the Timing and Communications Product Group.

Experience Level

Senior - requires extensive experience. The posting indicates a minimum of 15+ years of experience developing ATE test programs for integrated circuits.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include engineering, validation, and production support for timing-based IC products.

• Develop and maintain ATE test programs for timing products.
• Design and develop high-speed, low-noise ATE test boards and PCB validation work.
• Review product specifications and advise on manufacturability for timing products.
• Coordinate with applications, marketing, product, and reliability teams to meet release schedules.
• Establish manufacturing guard-bands from characterization and repeatability data.
• Support customer sampling, subcontractor testing, and offshore volume production ramps.
• Drive product cost reduction, yield improvement, and maximize test capacity.
• Analyze returned devices and support customer technical/logistical issues.
• Characterize and evaluate new products through validation and correlation activities.
• Collaborate with global teams and accommodate lab schedules; expected onsite work in company offices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience.

• 15+ years developing ATE test programs for integrated circuits, with leadership in multi-geography product development from concept to production.
• Hands-on experience with ATE hardware and software (examples: Diamond X, J750, Advantest v93k).
• Strong understanding of digital and analog circuits from transistor to system level.
• Knowledge of silicon development, validation, qualification, and correlation methodologies.
• Advanced statistical data analysis skills; proficient in programming (C, C++, Java) and yield tools (e.g., YieldHub).
• Familiarity with version control systems (GIT, SVN, Perforce).
• Proficient in Linux/Unix and Windows environments; skilled with bench lab equipment (oscilloscopes, voltmeters, etc.).
• Experience working directly with customers to address technical and logistical concerns; strong verbal and written English communication.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; flexible to collaborate across time zones and lab schedules.

Nice-to-have:

• Knowledge of IC packaging, testing, and manufacturing technologies.
• Expertise in generating test procedures and plans; ATE programming using Advantest Smartest and Cohu Unison.
• Proficiency in PCB schematic design, layout, assembly, and debugging.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science (specified in the posting).
