Role Summary

The Tape-Out Engineer is the final technical checkpoint before chip designs are released for fabrication. This role coordinates tape-out execution, verifies design integrity, and ensures deliverables meet foundry and manufacturing requirements.

The position works with design teams, technologists, program managers and manufacturing/process engineers to resolve issues and improve manufacturability and yield.

Responsibilities

Key duties include preparing, verifying and delivering design data to manufacturing and maintaining records for continuous improvement.

• Coordinate and execute the tape-out process to deliver accurate design data to foundries on schedule.
• Verify database and documentation integrity; identify and correct discrepancies or errors before release.
• Ensure all deliverables conform to foundry and manufacturing requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, technologists, program managers, process engineering) to resolve technical issues and optimize designs for manufacturability.
• Maintain detailed records of tape-out procedures, revisions, and outcomes to support process improvement.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, working patterns, and communication expectations.

• Experience with physical design tools and flows (examples: Cadence, Synopsys) and semiconductor manufacturing workflows.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills; ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Able to collaborate effectively across technical teams and with external foundry contacts; clear English communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours to support critical tape-outs.
• Familiarity with foundry delivery requirements and data formats used for tape-out.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required; a Master's degree is preferred. (No certifications or equivalent-experience language was specified.)
