Senior Systems Engineer
Role Summary
Work on system-level design, algorithms and validation for ultra-high-speed optical communication systems. Deliver algorithms and system-level solutions that are suitable for hardware and firmware implementation and collaborate with firmware, architecture, VLSI design and verification teams toward ASIC implementation and post-silicon validation.
Experience Level
Senior level. Posting prefers 4+ years of algorithm/systems engineering experience; minimum experience expectations vary by degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and develop algorithms for ultra-high-speed optical communication systems.
- Test and optimize system performance across simulation, FPGA, ASIC and lab environments.
- Design algorithms for HW/FW implementation, including fixed-point design and cost/power/performance trade-offs.
- Collaborate with firmware, architecture, VLSI design and verification teams for ASIC implementation and validation.
- Perform post-silicon activities: chip bring-up, testing, analysis and performance optimization.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Expertise in error correction codes (explicitly required).
- Experience with algorithm and systems engineering for high-speed communications (SerDes, PCIe); optics experience is an advantage.
- Practical experience with simulation, FPGA prototyping, ASIC validation and post-silicon bring-up.
- Ability to develop HW/FW-friendly algorithms (fixed-point design, power/performance trade-offs).
- Experience collaborating across firmware, architecture and VLSI teams; ability to communicate technical results to senior leadership is a plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field. Minimum experience guidance tied to degree: Bachelor's +2 years related experience OR Master's +1 year related experience OR PhD (no additional experience required). Preferred: Master's in EE/Communication Engineering and ~4+ years of relevant Algo/Systems engineering experience. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
