Senior Systems Engineer
Role Summary
The Senior Systems Engineer will support sustaining released metrology products, introduce new designs, and create upgrades affecting Manufacturing and Service environments. The role diagnoses system performance gaps, drives component selection and qualification, and implements design releases via change orders.
This position regularly interfaces with operations, service, hardware and software engineering teams and reports to the Senior Manager of Sustaining Engineering. Competitive salary and benefits are offered.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 7+ years of progressively responsible engineering and product development experience; experience in semiconductor equipment manufacturing preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include sustaining and improving released products, supporting escalations, and releasing design changes.
- Design and develop new hardware features for released products.
- Improve product performance and reliability via product, process, and test design evolution.
- Select, qualify, and release component obsolescence alternatives and maintain BOM/revisions.
- Implement new design releases through change-order processes.
- Design and conduct experiments to characterize, troubleshoot, and improve complex optical metrology systems.
- Provide tier 3 and tier 4 engineering escalation support for mature products.
- Develop and evolve processes and procedures to support manufacturing and service environments.
- Occasional domestic and international travel to support engineering projects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experiences, and behaviors for success in the role.
- 7+ years of engineering and product development experience in high-tech companies; semiconductor equipment experience preferred.
- Broad understanding of wafer handling automation systems, control systems, and optical systems.
- Experience diagnosing complex system-level issues and delivering quantitative analysis to guide decisions.
- Proven ability to drive component qualification, BOM maintenance, and change-release processes.
- Strong problem solving, accountability, and communication skills; ability to influence across organizational levels.
- Ability to design and execute experiments and test procedures to resolve complex issues.
- Nice-to-have: background in optical inspection equipment, computer/server architecture, and creating test programs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Optical preferred) or a related technical field, or equivalent practical/technical experience. The posting also notes an alternative track of equivalent knowledge with 5+ years of directly related experience in lieu of degree.
