Senior Systems / Emulation Infrastructure Engineer
AkeanaJob Title
Senior Systems / Emulation Infrastructure Engineer
Role Summary
Work as part of a small engineering team at an early-stage semiconductor startup focused on processor design. The role owns emulation system bring-up, emulation flow maintenance, and cross-functional debugging with architecture, RTL, and verification teams.
Opportunity to take technical ownership of emulation infrastructure and support hardware/software integration for high-performance CPU designs.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting does not state explicit years, but the role implies a senior engineer (typical expectation: 7+ years of relevant experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building, operating, and improving hardware emulation systems and workflows, debugging across hardware and software domains, and collaborating with design and verification teams.
- Lead emulation platform bring-up and ongoing maintenance (Cadence Palladium, Mentor Veloce, Synopsys Zebu).
- Integrate and validate RTL with I/O interfaces in hardware emulation environments.
- Develop and maintain emulation flows, automation, and supporting scripts.
- Debug hardware and software interactions, including simulation and low-level software issues.
- Collaborate with Architecture, RTL design, and DV teams to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues.
- Document procedures, share knowledge, and mentor team members on emulation best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong experience with hardware emulation platforms such as Cadence Palladium, Mentor Veloce, or Synopsys Zebu.
- Experience bringing up designs with I/O interfaces on emulation systems.
- Fluency in Verilog and experience with simulation and hardware debug.
- Software debug skills in C/C++ and familiarity with low-level assembly languages.
- Knowledge of computer architecture and embedded systems.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Tcl, Perl, Python), Unix shells, and Makefiles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and clear verbal and written communication.
Nice-to-have: prior CPU or high-performance processor experience; experience with emulation automation or tooling development.
