Job Title

Senior Systems Design Engineer

Role Summary

Work on AMD's CGC-Tools team to design, implement, and maintain debug infrastructure and tooling that support silicon bring-up, validation, customer debug, and production. The role spans hardware, firmware, and software components of JTAG and automated debug systems and requires cross-functional collaboration with IP, firmware, validation, security, and customer engineering teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The job title indicates a senior role; no specific years-of-experience guidance is provided in the posting.

Responsibilities

The engineer will enable end-to-end debug capabilities and contribute to tools, services, and processes that capture, transport, and analyze debug data.

  • Analyze upcoming SoCs and identify needs for advanced debug tooling.
  • Work with IP and firmware teams to instrument debug data and define collection procedures and specifications.
  • Design and develop JTAG hardware and JTAG-over-USB-C transport solutions.
  • Develop Python libraries and software to capture debug data and evaluate IP health.
  • Contribute to Automated Debug System (ADS) service and related distributed applications.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD-based QA automation for debug tools and pipelines.
  • Package and run debug services in containers and assist with Kubernetes-based deployments.
  • Support customer-facing debug workflows and enable AMD debug features in customer designs.
  • Collaborate with IT and InfoSec to secure debug data transport (e.g., secure VPNs for JTAG devices).
  • Ship external JTAG device software releases and support multi-business-unit program readiness.

Requirements

Core technical skills and working abilities required for the role.

Must-have:

  • Practical experience with system-level debugging and debug methodologies.
  • Experience with JTAG tooling and related hardware concepts.
  • Proficiency in Python for tooling and data processing; low-level data manipulation skills.
  • Experience with Linux-based development and firmware development.
  • Experience with containerization and CI/CD pipelines; familiarity with Kubernetes is expected.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across IP, firmware, validation, and customer teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • x86 system knowledge and SoC internal architecture experience.
  • Experience with BIOS, platform design, validation processes, and USB.
  • Familiarity with C, Java, or JavaScript for tooling or firmware support.
  • Experience with large-scale automation and secure data transport practices.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (as stated in the posting).
