Senior Systems Applications Engineer — Smart Grid Solutions
Role Summary
The Smart Grid Solutions team seeks an experienced systems/applications engineer to develop and deploy sensing, monitoring, and analytics solutions for electrical grids. The role bridges customer requirements with ADI hardware and software to deliver proof-of-concept systems, support integrations, and enable product commercialization.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5–10 years of industry experience in Systems Engineering, Applications Engineering, Product Engineering, or similar roles.
Responsibilities
Work across hardware and software domains to define system architectures, build prototypes, support integrations, and drive customer deployments.
- Engage with customers and partners to capture system requirements, deployment constraints, and application challenges.
- Translate customer needs into system architectures leveraging ADI hardware, software, and signal-chain technologies.
- Design, prototype, evaluate, and troubleshoot hardware platforms for proofs-of-concept and customer evaluations.
- Support integration of embedded systems, ADI software platforms, and analytics into customer environments.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues spanning hardware, firmware, software, communications, and system interactions.
- Support customer evaluations, field trials, and production deployments.
- Perform system validation and testing against customer requirements and relevant industry standards.
- Develop technical documentation, application notes, reference designs, and demonstration systems.
- Deliver technical presentations, demonstrations, and training to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, systems, and product teams to identify solution gaps and influence product roadmaps.
Requirements
Key must-have skills and experience. Preferred items are noted separately.
- 5–10 years of industry experience in systems, applications, or product engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Strong hardware background: electronic system design, instrumentation, sensing, embedded systems, or power electronics.
- Proven experience troubleshooting complex, system-level issues across hardware and software boundaries.
- Familiarity with embedded software, communications interfaces, and software integration activities.
- Proficiency in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or similar tools for analysis, debugging, and automation.
- Experience working directly with customers to define requirements and solve technical challenges.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to travel internationally as required (approximately 20%).
- Comfortable working in laboratory, industrial, and utility environments.
Preferred / nice-to-have
- Experience with electrical power systems, smart grid technologies, power quality monitoring, energy management systems, or utility applications.
- Experience developing proof-of-concept systems, PCB design, hardware bring-up, and laboratory validation.
- Familiarity with cloud-connected systems, data analytics platforms, or industrial communications protocols.
- Experience influencing product roadmaps through customer engagement and market feedback.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is required (as stated in the posting).
