Senior System Software Engineer, RTL-to-GDS Flow Platform
Role Summary
The Engineering Workflow Platform team builds the control plane and user-facing infrastructure that turn chip-design intent into repeatable production workflows. This role designs and operates workflow stages, generated artifacts, tool execution, validation checks, and shared project state for RTL-to-GDS flows.

Responsibilities
The engineer will design and operate production workflow control planes and improve reliability, observability, and portability of established engineering automation.
- Design control-plane logic to convert layered configuration and engineering intent into repeatable workflow stages, tool execution, and validation results.
- Model dependencies, manifests, workflow state, retries, recovery, provenance, and machine-readable status.
- Diagnose and prevent production failures related to Linux processes, environment setup, exit codes, shared filesystems, schedulers, and partial writes.
- Modernize legacy Make/Tcl/Perl/Python/shell/YAML infrastructure while preserving behavior for active projects.
- Partner with chip-design, EDA, and infrastructure teams to reproduce failures, deliver compatible migrations, and improve observability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Production ownership of workflow, build, release, developer-infrastructure, HPC, storage, or engineering-automation systems with multiple stages, dependencies, and generated outputs.
- Strong Linux and POSIX fundamentals: files, permissions, symlinks, processes, environment variables, exit codes, logs, and background jobs.
- Practical programming experience in Python, C++, Perl, or a comparable language plus shell scripting.
- Familiarity with Make, YAML, JSON, or related infrastructure formats and tooling.
- Experience designing configuration/state models, debugging production failures, and migrating established systems without disrupting active users.
Nice-to-have:
- Semiconductor-design or EDA workflow experience (RTL, synthesis, place-and-route, timing, signoff, ECO, design handoffs).
- Experience with LSF, Slurm, Grid Engine, shared compute infrastructure, or shared filesystems such as NFS.
- Deep ownership of build systems, HPC workflows, release infrastructure, or artifact-centered storage platforms.
- Experience producing structured logs, manifests, provenance records, validation results, or actionable workflow diagnostics.
- Proven ability to modernize legacy Make/Tcl/Perl/Python/shell infrastructure while preserving compatibility and rollback capability.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. The posting also specifies at least 12 years of relevant software engineering experience.
