Job Title

Senior System Software Engineer - GPU Power and Performance Management

Role Summary

Join NVIDIA's GPU Performance and Power Management Software team to design, implement, and debug production software for GPU power and performance management, with emphasis on P-state control and DVFS for data-center GPUs.

The role spans hardware architecture, embedded firmware, device drivers, operating systems, pre-silicon validation, silicon bring-up, and production support to improve performance, energy efficiency, and reliability.

Experience Level

Senior - 8+ years of industry experience building system software, embedded firmware, device drivers, or other hardware-related production software.

Responsibilities

Deliver system software and control mechanisms that manage GPU performance, power, and thermals across the product lifecycle.

  • Architect, implement, and debug GPU power and performance management software (P-states, DVFS).
  • Develop control policies and real-time software to optimize performance, power, thermals, and energy-efficiency KPIs under data-center workloads.
  • Own features across requirements, architecture, implementation, pre-silicon validation, silicon bring-up, productization, and production support.
  • Define hardware-software interfaces in collaboration with GPU architects and hardware designers.
  • Analyze interactions among workloads, clocks, voltages, power limits, thermals, telemetry, and system policies.
  • Lead investigations into complex cross-layer power, performance, stability, and reliability issues.
  • Develop validation strategies and automation for correctness, transition latency, performance-per-watt, and robustness.
  • Produce architecture, interface, and feature specifications for new power and performance capabilities.
  • Collaborate with distributed teams across architecture, ASIC, firmware, drivers, validation, platform, and systems.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications and technical skills required for the role.

  • 8+ years of industry experience developing system software, embedded firmware, device drivers, or similar hardware-related production software.
  • Strong programming skills in C for low-level systems development and debugging.
  • Deep understanding of OS fundamentals, device-driver architecture, concurrency, interrupt handling, and real-time or embedded software.
  • Experience interpreting hardware specifications and implementing register, telemetry, interrupt, and control interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of computer architecture and hardware–software interactions.
  • Proven ability to debug complex cross-layer problems spanning firmware, drivers, hardware, and platform software.
  • Ability to own technically challenging subsystems and drive them to production with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience with GPU, CPU, accelerator, or SoC power and performance management.
  • Experience implementing P-state selection, DVFS, clock/voltage control, power capping, thermal management, or workload-aware policies.
  • Experience developing real-time feedback controllers and reasoning about stability, latency, hysteresis, and noise in telemetry.
  • Experience building validation, observability, and automation infrastructure for low-level software features.
  • Understanding of electrical/platform considerations: voltage-frequency relationships, transient power, thermal limits, power delivery, and system-level power budgets.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
