Senior System Software Engineer - Datacenter Power Management
NVIDIAJob Title
Senior System Software Engineer - Datacenter Power Management
Role Summary
Join NVIDIA's Datacenter Performance and Power Management Software team to design and deliver production software for datacenter power management controllers and cluster-level power provisioning. The role spans hardware architecture, embedded firmware, device drivers, operating systems, and datacenter-scale deployment.
Work includes system architecture, pre-silicon validation, silicon bring-up, productization, and production support to optimize performance, energy efficiency, and reliability for next-generation data centers.
Experience Level
Senior - candidate should have at least 12+ years of industry experience in system software, embedded firmware, device drivers, or comparable hardware-focused production software.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing, building, and validating datacenter power and performance-management software.
- Architect and implement end-to-end power-management software for racks and data halls.
- Design and implement real-time controllers, policies, and mechanisms to optimize performance, power, thermals, and energy efficiency under datacenter workloads.
- Drive features across requirements, architecture, implementation, validation, silicon bring-up, productization, and production support.
- Collaborate with GPU architects and hardware designers to define hardware-software interfaces and influence processor power-management capabilities.
- Analyze interactions among workloads, clocks, voltages, power limits, thermals, telemetry, and system-level policies.
- Lead investigation and resolution of complex power, performance, stability, and reliability issues across firmware, drivers, hardware, and platform software.
- Develop validation strategies and automation for correctness, transition latency, performance-per-watt, and robustness.
- Create clear architecture, interface, and composition specifications for new power-management features.
- Coordinate with geographically distributed architecture, ASIC, firmware, driver, validation, platform, and datacenter systems teams.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 12+ years of hands-on industry experience building system software, embedded firmware, device drivers, or related hardware-focused production software.
- Strong programming skills in C for low-level software development, debugging, and maintenance.
- Deep knowledge of operating-system fundamentals, device-driver architecture, embedded/real-time software, concurrency, interrupt handling, and hardware programming.
- Experience interpreting hardware specifications and developing software interfaces for registers, telemetry, interrupts, and control mechanisms.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture and hardware–software interactions.
- Proven ability to independently debug complex cross-layer problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; experience working across organizational and geographic boundaries.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience architecting or operating datacenter provisioning, monitoring, and power management at a CSP/NCP scale.
- Hands-on experience with GPU, CPU, accelerator, or SoC power and performance management.
- Experience with P-state selection, DVFS, clock/voltage control, power-capping, thermal-management, throttling, or workload-aware control policies.
- Experience developing real-time feedback controllers and reasoning about stability, responsiveness, hysteresis, latency, and noisy telemetry.
- Understanding of electrical and platform considerations such as voltage-frequency relationships, transient power, thermal limits, power delivery, and system-level power budgets.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
