Senior System Software Engineer
NVIDIAJob Title
Senior System Software Engineer
Role Summary
Work on system-level power and performance for SoC and Windows on ARM (WoA) platforms. The role focuses on measuring, characterizing, and improving power/perf and battery-life across workload scenarios, building automated measurement infrastructure, and collaborating with firmware, hardware, OS, and driver teams.
Contribute technical analysis, tooling, and reports that inform product tuning and architectural decisions.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include measurement, analysis, tooling, and cross-team enablement to improve system power and performance.
- Drive power, performance, and perf/watt measurements on SoC and system platforms, with emphasis on Windows on ARM devices.
- Characterize system behavior across idle, active, and low-power states; optimize battery-life scenarios (productivity, web, conferencing, streaming, Modern Standby).
- Analyze power telemetry, firmware traces, and OS metrics to identify bottlenecks and recommend mitigations.
- Design and build automated power measurement infrastructure integrating DAQs, telemetry parsers, and ETL pipelines.
- Collaborate with hardware architecture, BIOS/firmware, OS, and driver teams to enable and tune power features (DVFS, deep C-states, idle gating) from pre-silicon through post-silicon bring-up.
- Produce visualizations and reports to summarize trends, isolate regressions, and communicate recommendations to engineering and leadership.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role effectively.
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience in system software, power characterization, or similar areas.
- Strong understanding of power management concepts: low power modes, P-states, C-states, S0ix/Modern Standby, DVFS, package power limits, and thermal throttling.
- Experience with power and system tools on Windows/Linux such as WPA, HWInfo, ETL, Xperf, and PowerCfg.
- Solid understanding of SoC architecture (CPU, memory, I/O subsystems) and firmware (BIOS/UEFI/EC).
- Proficiency in scripting for automation and data parsing (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Ability to analyze execution metrics (latency, throughput, utilization) and optimize power vs. performance trade-offs.
Nice-to-have
- Experience debugging/optimizing multimedia or display offload pipelines for power savings.
- Experience building scalable lab infrastructure, databases, or ETL pipelines for high-volume telemetry.
- Exposure to AI/ML for anomaly detection, regression tracking, or predictive power estimation.
- Hands-on experience with SoC validation tools, thermal chambers, and high-resolution power analyzers (NI, Yokogawa, Agilent/Keysight).
- Knowledge of battery modeling and energy-efficiency benchmarking.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. The posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
