Senior System Software Engineer
NVIDIAJob Title
Senior System Software Engineer
Role Summary
Work on power, performance, and power-efficiency analysis for SoC and system platforms with emphasis on Windows on ARM devices. The role develops automated measurement infrastructure, analyzes telemetry and firmware traces, and collaborates across hardware, firmware, OS, and driver teams to optimize power and performance.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include measurement, analysis, automation, and cross-team enablement to improve power and performance.
- Drive power, performance, and perf-per-watt measurements on SoC and system platforms; focus on Windows on ARM (WoA) devices.
- Characterize system behavior across idle, active, and low-power states; optimize Hours of Battery Life (HOBL) scenarios (productivity, web browsing, conferencing, video streaming, Modern Standby/S0ix).
- Analyze power telemetry, firmware traces, and OS metrics to find and mitigate bottlenecks.
- Design, build, and scale automated power measurement infrastructure, integrating DAQs, telemetry parsers, and ETL pipelines.
- Collaborate with hardware architecture, BIOS/firmware, OS, and driver teams to enable and tune power features (DVFS, deep C-states, idle power gating) from pre-silicon through post-silicon bring-up.
- Produce visualizations and reports that summarize product health, isolate regressions, and recommend optimizations to engineering and leadership.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for the role.
- Strong understanding of power management concepts: low-power modes, P-states, C-states, S0ix/Modern Standby, DVFS, package power limits, and thermal throttling.
- Practical experience with power analysis tools on Windows/Linux (examples: WPA, HWInfo, ETL, Xperf, PowerCfg).
- Solid understanding of SoC architecture, including CPU, memory, I/O subsystems, and firmware (BIOS/UEFI/EC).
- Proficiency in scripting for test automation and data parsing (Python, PowerShell, or Bash).
- Ability to analyze execution metrics (latency, throughput, utilization) and balance power vs. performance trade-offs.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience debugging and optimizing multimedia or display hardware offload pipelines for power savings.
- Experience building scalable lab infrastructure, databases, or ETL pipelines for high-volume telemetry.
- Exposure to AI/ML models for anomaly detection, regression tracking, or predictive power estimation.
- Hands-on experience with SoC validation tools, thermal chambers, and high-resolution power analyzers (NI, Yokogawa, Agilent/Keysight).
- Knowledge of battery modeling and energy-efficiency benchmarking.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Equivalent industry experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree.
