Senior Supercomputing Software Engineer (Taiwan)
Role Summary
Design, integrate, and maintain foundational system software for Etched's server platforms, focusing on BIOS, BMC firmware, boot processes, root-of-trust, system logging, and kernel-mode components. The role works at the node level to ensure reliability, security, and high performance, and collaborates closely with hardware and software teams.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing, validating, and supporting system-level software for production servers.
- Integrate, maintain, and optimize BIOS and BMC firmware to ensure reliable and fast boot processes (including NetBoot and secure boot).
- Implement and validate root-of-trust and other platform security mechanisms.
- Design and implement advanced system logging, diagnostics, and monitoring for large-scale server deployments.
- Analyze DRAM timings, PCIe configurations, power-state transitions, and hardware logs to diagnose performance and reliability issues.
- Develop and maintain kernel-mode drivers and low-level platform software as needed.
- Integrate node-level container orchestration and runtime components (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) into the system stack.
- Create and execute comprehensive test plans, CI/CD pipelines, and performance validation workflows.
- Review code, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role.
- 10+ years experience with C/C++ or Python.
- 8+ years experience in BMC firmware development (AMI or OpenBMC).
- 5+ years experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with server boot processes and firmware optimization.
- Proven ability to analyze hardware logs and diagnose complex system-level failures.
- Strong understanding of operating systems (Linux preferred) and server hardware architectures.
- Knowledge of platform security concepts, including root-of-trust and secure boot.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills; experience leading or mentoring engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with BIOS firmware architectures and OpenBMC development.
- Familiarity with container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Experience with tracing and profiling tools (perf, eBPF, ftrace) and performance benchmarking tools.
- Kernel-mode driver development and debugging experience.
- Experience with Rust.
- Prior experience in a technical lead role.
