Job Title

Senior/Staff STPG Engineer, Product Engineering - Probe

Role Summary

The Probe Product Engineer owns probe strategy and silicon learning at wafer test across pre-silicon design-to-probe staging, first-silicon bring-up, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing.

This role translates design intent and silicon behavior into producible probe coverage, limits, and guard-bands, and partners with Design, DFT, DV, Process Integration, Backend Test, and Reliability to drive yield, quality, and test-cost outcomes.

Experience Level

Senior-level (Staff). Years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on defining and operating probe strategy through product introduction and volume manufacturing, and on driving yield and test optimization through data and cross-functional alignment.

  • Define and own probe coverage intent by mapping design features, device behavior, and process risks into observability, screening, trims, and guard-bands.
  • Release and sustain probe test flows from first silicon through qualification and HVM while minimizing unnecessary test overhead.
  • Establish probe limits and guard-bands based on silicon characterization and customer requirements, aligned with downstream test.
  • Lead probe enablement for new product introductions (NPI) and technology ramps; identify risks and drive mitigations.
  • Partner with Design, DFT, and DV to influence test hooks, observability, redundancy, and trim structures for manufacturable probe coverage.
  • Support first-silicon bring-up and perform device-level characterization to inform probe limits and screening strategy.
  • Drive wafer-level yield learning, bin definitions, failure-mode analysis, and provide structured feedback to fab, process, and design teams.
  • Improve test efficiency and cost through coverage right-sizing, flow optimization, and wafer-level speed activities.
  • Leverage probe, inline, and reliability data for yield analysis, anomaly detection, and decision support; contribute to AI/ML initiatives for predictive probe and test optimization.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Education requirements are summarized separately below.

  • Strong fundamentals in semiconductor devices, wafer test, and product engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to use silicon behavior and characterization data to set probe limits, guard-bands, and screening strategies.
  • Experience or strong interest in silicon learning, device behavior, yield mechanisms, and design-to-manufacturing integration.
  • Familiarity with DFT intent and the ability to collaborate on design-to-probe staging and verification.
  • Experience with first-silicon bring-up, parametric/device characterization, and yield or failure analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to conduct structured root-cause analysis.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and experience working across global, cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: practical experience applying AI/ML to probe/test optimization, predictive analytics, or smart sampling strategies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering (with a hardware/circuits or semiconductor focus), Semiconductor Physics, or a related technical field.
