Senior Staff SoC Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead and execute block-level physical implementation for SoC/UCIE IP from RTL to GDSII, owning timing signoff, tape-out preparation, and flow reliability. Work closely with architecture, RTL, circuit, and integration teams to meet aggressive PPA and quality targets.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 9+ years of block-level physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for physical design flow delivery, automation, and cross-team integration.

• Own and optimize RTL-to-GDSII flows, including STA and signoff processes.
• Perform floorplanning, placement & routing, timing closure, and IR-drop/EM analysis.
• Integrate covercells, macros, and complex IP with clean abutment and quality checks.
• Prepare tape-out views, documentation, and manage foundry checklists for signoff.
• Automate tool flows, debug tool and flow issues, and document best practices.
• Collaborate with architecture, RTL, and circuit teams on test-chip and IP development.
• Establish robust flows to detect and eliminate late-stage issues and enable downstream integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience; nice-to-have items follow.

• Must-have: 9+ years of block-level physical design experience, including floorplanning, P&R, timing closure, LVS/DRC, and IR-drop/EM analysis.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience with signoff and implementation tools such as PrimeTime and IC Compiler II / Fusion Compiler, ICV, and RedHawk.
• Must-have: Proven experience integrating complex IP and managing tape-out deliverables and checklists.
• Nice-to-have: Experience at advanced process nodes (7 nm or below).
• Nice-to-have: Scripting and flow automation experience (Tcl, Python).
