Senior Staff Silicon Design Engineer (Emulation)
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Senior Staff Silicon Design Engineer (Emulation)
Role Summary
Senior engineer on the SBIO team responsible for building and operating hardware validation platforms and emulation-based prototypes to validate SoC designs and debug complex hardware-software interactions.
Work cross-functionally with design, verification and firmware teams to define validation plans, run emulation/prototyping campaigns, and resolve system failures. Role is based in George Town, Penang, Malaysia with a hybrid work arrangement.
Experience Level
Senior - posting requests candidates with extensive experience; preferred 10+ years in hardware prototyping/emulation.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building validation platforms, executing debug campaigns, and improving emulation flows.
- Develop and deploy pre-silicon models using commercial prototyping and emulation platforms.
- Operate emulation platforms to run full-SoC workloads and reproduce system-level failures.
- Collaborate with design, verification, and firmware teams to diagnose and debug hardware-software issues.
- Improve internal flows, automation, and validation processes for prototyping and emulation.
- Contribute to architecture reviews and planning for emulation capabilities and integrations.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on debugging and validation best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: 10+ years of hands-on experience in hardware prototyping/emulation and system-level debug.
- Must-have: Experience with major emulation/prototyping vendors and platforms (examples: Synopsys, Cadence; Zebu, Palladium, Veloce).
- Must-have: Experience emulating full-SoC designs with embedded processors and debugging SoC system failures on emulation platforms.
- Must-have: Strong software debugging skills in C/C++ and familiarity with low-level assembly programming for embedded processors.
- Must-have: Fluent in SystemVerilog; familiarity with VHDL, simulation and debug flows.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with high-speed protocols such as USB and PCIe.
- Nice-to-have: Experience improving emulation flows, deploying new capabilities, and participating in architecture planning.
- Strong analytical problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
