Job Title

Senior Staff Product Development Engineer

Role Summary

The Senior Staff Product Development Engineer will develop and deploy production-grade analytics and machine‑learning solutions to improve yield, quality, and cost for AMD server CPUs and Instinct accelerators. The role partners with Product Engineering, Test, Yield, Quality/Reliability, and Operations teams to convert manufacturing and test data into actionable insights.

Work involves hands‑on analysis of high‑volume manufacturing and test data, productionizing models and analytics within AMD’s analytics platform, and influencing decisions from early ramp through high‑volume manufacturing. This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX.

Experience Level

Senior-level; the posting does not state a specific years-of-experience requirement.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on analytics, ML deployment, and cross-functional problem solving to reduce defects and optimize test and manufacturing processes.

  • Partner with Product, Test, Yield, Quality, and Operations to identify and prioritize analytics and ML use cases that reduce DPPM and cost.
  • Develop and deploy ML/AI solutions for outlier screening, drift detection, and anomaly detection across wafer, lot, site, and package dimensions.
  • Perform in-depth root-cause analysis of yield loss and DPPM drivers by correlating test, fab, assembly, and design variables.
  • Build, productionize, and maintain yield and quality analytics within AMD’s AVA analytics platform; move models from experimentation to scalable deployment.
  • Drive adaptive test, screening, and binning strategies using data-driven insights.
  • Author technical documentation and present findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams and executives.
  • Contribute reusable code, analytics frameworks, and best practices to improve team capability.

Requirements

Looking for applied analytics and semiconductor manufacturing experience, with strong statistics and software skills.

Must-have

  • Hands-on experience analyzing high-volume semiconductor manufacturing and test data (yield/test/fab/assembly correlations).
  • Solid foundations in statistics and machine learning (hypothesis testing, DOE/RSM, regression, classification, outlier detection, time-series analysis, anomaly detection).
  • Practical experience with Python and SQL for data analysis and modeling (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn or equivalent).
  • Practical knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing and test flows (wafer sort, final test, binning strategies, DPPM analysis, excursion management).
  • Proven ability to deploy analytics or ML solutions into production environments (beyond notebook prototypes).
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and clear technical communication skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with yield analytics ecosystems and production analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with server-class CPUs and/or accelerator/GPU products.

Education Requirements

Preferred: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
