Senior Staff Optical Validation Engineer
Marvell TechnologyJob Title
Senior Staff Optical Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Lead validation and test engineering for high-speed optical interconnect products (optical transceivers and co-packaged optics) within the Optical Connectivity Group. Develop test and calibration methods, scalable test stations and software, and drive product bring-up, EVT and DVT to ensure performance and manufacturability.
Work with cross-functional hardware, firmware and silicon teams to debug issues, optimize calibration, and deliver production-ready test flows.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typically requires substantial prior experience in optical validation and high-speed communications engineering (senior engineers with multiple years of domain experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop test, calibration, and optimization methods for high-speed optical interconnect products.
- Design, implement, and maintain automated test stations and test software for scalable production and validation.
- Execute bring-up, debug, calibration, engineering validation testing (EVT) and design validation testing (DVT).
- Collect, analyze, and interpret test data; produce technical reports and validation documentation.
- Collaborate with design, silicon, firmware and manufacturing teams to resolve performance and yield issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (education and degree-based experience expectations are listed under Education Requirements):
- Deep knowledge of optical communication components: optical DSP, coherent DSP, high-speed modulators, receivers, transimpedance amplifiers, RF amplifiers.
- Understanding of optical system impairments and compensation techniques; signal integrity along the data path, amplifiers and tunable filters.
- Solid grasp of RF/microwave engineering and photonics fundamentals.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python for test automation and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with electrical and optical test equipment: optical spectrum analyzers, digital communication analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, wavelength and power meters.
- Familiarity with signal integrity, PAM4 SerDes, vector network analyzers (VNA), and time-domain reflectometry (TDR).
- Experience analyzing test data and producing clear technical reports.
Education Requirements
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 5+ years; or a Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years in design validation for fiber-optical communication systems - or equivalent practical experience. Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, and related technical disciplines.
