Job Title

Senior Staff Optical Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Work on validation, test development, and calibration for high-speed optical interconnect products including optical transceivers and co-packaged optics. Join the Optical Connectivity Group to translate optical system designs into mass-manufacturable, reliable products.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. The posting specifies senior experience ranges tied to degree: see Education Requirements for details.

Responsibilities

Deliver validation, test infrastructure, and data analysis for optical communication products.

  • Develop test, calibration, and optimization methods for high-speed optical interconnects (transceivers, co-packaging optics).
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable test stations and test software platforms.
  • Lead bring-up, debug, calibration, engineering validation testing (EVT), and design validation testing (DVT).
  • Execute test plans, analyze measurement data, and generate technical reports.

Requirements

Technical skills and hands-on experience required for validation of fiber-optical communication systems.

  • Deep knowledge of optical communication components and systems: optical DSP (including coherent DSP), high-speed modulators, receivers, transimpedance amplifiers, RF amplifiers.
  • Understanding of optical impairments and compensation techniques; signal integrity across the data path.
  • Solid fundamentals in RF/microwave engineering and photonics.
  • Proficient programming in Python for test automation and data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and optical test equipment: optical spectrum analyzers, digital communication analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, wavelength and power meters.
  • Familiarity with PAM4 SerDes, vector network analyzers (VNA), and time-domain reflectometry (TDR).

Nice-to-have: experience with scalable test frameworks, firmware/FPGA interaction, and photonic IC characterization.

Education Requirements

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; or Master’s degree with 3–5 years’ relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree with 5–10+ years’ experience in design validation for fiber-optical communication systems. Fields: EE, CS, or related technical disciplines. (This posting ties degree level to expected years of experience.)
