Job Title

Senior/Staff Layout Engineer, Memory Design

Role Summary

Senior/Staff layout engineer responsible for physical implementation of memory macros and compiler-based memory solutions (SRAM/ROM/RF/TCAM) across advanced process technologies. The role works within the Hardware Engineering group to deliver area- and performance-optimized memory layouts, ensure physical verification compliance, and collaborate with CAD and design teams to meet node-specific requirements.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience: 4+ years of relevant hardware/layout engineering experience; specific minimums by degree are summarized in Education Requirements.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop custom and compiler-based approaches for multiple memory architectures and types (SRAM, ROM, RF, TCAM).
  • Execute end-to-end memory layout tasks from technology investigation and leafcell layout to top-level integration and QA.
  • Define and enforce layout methodology and structure to optimize area, performance and signal integrity.
  • Specify and implement strategies for physical verification (DRC, LVS, DFM, ERC, Antenna, EMIR) within project cycles.
  • Work closely with CAD and design teams to optimize layouts for different technology nodes (FinFET/GAA, etc.).
  • Promote automation, new tools, and updated methodologies to improve flow and quality.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes:

  • Hands-on memory layout experience for FinFET and GAA technologies, with a focus on optimizing performance and area.
  • Experience with memory layout flows for both custom and compiler solutions, including leafcell and top-level integration.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device fundamentals and layout-dependent effects relevant to memory design.
  • Familiarity with physical verification signoff processes and integration into development cycles.
  • Fluent English verbal and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to learn new tools and methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of hardware/layout engineering experience; OR Master's degree in the same fields with 3+ years of experience; OR PhD in the same fields with 2+ years of experience.
