Senior Staff Hardware Engineer, Signal & Power Integrity (DDR/HBM)
Role Summary
Senior engineer on an R&D circuits team delivering signal and power integrity (SIPI) solutions for DDR and HBM PHYs. The role performs interconnect and power-delivery analysis, produces design guidelines and reports, and communicates findings to internal design teams and external customers.
Experience Level
Senior - requires approximately 8+ years of relevant experience in DDR/HBM SIPI engineering or equivalent industry experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include modeling, analysis, documentation, and cross-team/customer communication to improve PHY and system performance.
- Perform interconnect assessments using modeling techniques to predict channel data rates and signal margins.
- Analyze and recommend strategies for system performance optimization, including signal margin, power, and equalization (FFE, DFE, CTLE).
- Assess power delivery systems to optimize supply stability and minimize jitter.
- Construct and analyze eye diagrams using statistical modeling and related SIPI methods.
- Document findings in technical reports and design guidelines.
- Present results and recommendations to design teams and customers to drive PHY and system improvements.
- Collaborate with design teams and customers to refine analysis methods and resolve issues to closure.
- Track industry developments and memory vendor roadmaps to influence PHY roadmap and SIPI methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of core qualifications.
- 8+ years of experience in DDR/HBM SIPI engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven understanding of high-speed interface signaling: s-parameters, channel loss, crosstalk, jitter, and equalization techniques.
- Experience with signal and power integrity analysis methods (eye diagram construction, return loss, impedance matching, resonant system analysis).
- Proficiency with tools such as HFSS/Ansys, HSPICE, Raptor, and ADS.
- Ability to generate clear technical reports and communicate results to internal teams and external customers.
- Knowledge of board-level construction and on-chip I/O design and how they interact with SIPI analysis.
