Senior Staff Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Engineer firmware for high-performance networking SoCs, focusing on SERDES/D2D, MCU coprocessors, and hardware accelerators. Work on firmware development, hardware bring-up, performance analysis, and cross-functional problem resolution for networking and storage products.

Position sits on a product firmware team collaborating with hardware, system validation, and software teams to deliver reliable, high-performance networking solutions.

Experience Level

Senior - typically requires 3–5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 2–3 years with a Master's/PhD.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include firmware development, hardware bring-up, and cross-team debugging.

  • Design and develop SERDES/D2D firmware using embedded C/C++ for networking systems.
  • Implement features and enhancements for MCU coprocessors and hardware accelerators.
  • Troubleshoot hardware bring-up issues via MCU, JTAG, GPIO and work with system validation.
  • Develop and optimize multi-threaded software that interacts with virtualized hardware.
  • Analyze software performance on SoCs, identify bottlenecks, and recommend hardware/software improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional hardware and software engineers to resolve customer issues.
  • Contribute to networking product firmware and software development.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant experience.

  • Proven experience with embedded C/C++ firmware development.
  • Experience in Linux kernel driver development.
  • Experience with MCU firmware and hardware bring-up (JTAG, GPIO).
  • Familiarity with networking systems and Ethernet protocols.
  • Ability to debug hardware-software integration and optimize software performance on SoCs.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with validation and hardware teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Programming experience with Python or Assembly.
  • Experience with AI-accelerated software development.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (3–5 years experience); Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (2–3 years experience).

Compensation note: Expected base pay range (USD) 131,010 - 196,300 per annum. This role is eligible for bonus and equity programs.
