Senior/Staff Engineer, Firmware and Product Test (SSD)

Role Summary

The Senior/Staff Engineer owns defined SSD firmware verification scope and drives test strategy, automation, failure analysis, and product readiness for SSD firmware features.

This role partners with firmware development and cross-functional teams to improve code quality, debug complex NAND and system-level issues, and ensure reliable product performance for enterprise and automotive SSDs.

Experience Level

Senior / Staff level. The posting specifies over 3 years of relevant SSD firmware test development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include planning and executing firmware verification, leading debugging and automation efforts, and communicating results to stakeholders.

• Own comprehensive verification plans for SSD firmware features across functional, regression, and system levels.
• Design and implement white-box, grey-box, known, and closed-system test methods.
• Develop and maintain test automation, regression suites, and reporting pipelines.
• Analyze weekly regression failures, perform root-cause analysis, and resolve NAND, firmware, and system-level issues.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborate with firmware engineers to improve test coverage and code quality.
• Support automated build, continuous integration, Git flow, and branch management for test systems.
• Mentor and lead other engineers; communicate technical challenges, risks, and mitigation plans to cross-functional teams and management.
• Integrate AI-assisted tools and insights responsibly to improve efficiency and quality where appropriate.

Requirements

• Minimum: over 3 years of experience in SSD firmware test development and verification.
• Deep hands-on experience with SSD firmware testing, verification planning, and coverage analysis.
• Proficient in Python for test development, automation, regression analysis, and reporting.
• Experience validating and debugging NAND, firmware components, and SSD system-level issues.
• Knowledge of storage protocols and specifications such as PCIe, NVMe, NVMe‑MI, and OCP.
• Familiarity with automated build systems, continuous integration, test automation frameworks, Agile workflows, and Git development flow.
• Strong analytical problem-solving, clear technical communication, and ability to manage complex priorities independently.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience supporting enterprise or automotive SSD products.
• Proven experience improving firmware code quality through close partnership with firmware development teams.
• Experience applying role-appropriate AI tools responsibly to aid research, analysis, and automation.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
