Job Title

Senior Staff Engineer, Applications Engineering

Role Summary

This role develops and supports hardware-assisted verification products (emulation and prototyping), working closely with R&D and customers. The position focuses on enabling early-stage design bring-up, defining test strategies, and driving technology from development through customer deployment.

The role is part of an emulation product engineering team responsible for ZeBu-related products and interoperability with other Synopsys tools.

Experience Level

Senior — 10+ years of related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership across product lifecycle and customer engagements.

  • Collaborate with R&D and customers on hardware-assisted verification and prototyping solutions.
  • Drive product lifecycle activities from development through product sign-off and customer deployment.
  • Define and implement test strategies and methodologies to improve usability, quality of results, and tool interoperability.
  • Serve as an expert on emulation/prototyping flows: design partitioning, testing, synthesis, and simulation-based verification.
  • Interact with Marketing, Sales, and support teams to demonstrate and deploy differentiated emulation/verification environments.
  • Follow product release processes and best practices to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Support designs across verticals (HPC, AI, storage, networking, automotive, hyperscalers) during early-stage development.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, with preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Extensive practical experience with emulation and/or prototyping flows, systems, and methodologies.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, and C/C++.
  • Must-have: Solid understanding of verification concepts and experience with functional simulators.
  • Must-have: Experience with scripting languages such as Python and Tcl.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of simulation flows, assertions, DPI, and transactors; strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Must-have: Strong communication skills and ability to interact with customers and cross-functional peers.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of synthesis and timing analysis concepts.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Synopsys tools (ZeBu, HAPS, VCS, Verdi, Proto Compiler, Synplify, DC, Formality).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Xilinx and Altera architectures/toolchains, common protocols (PCIe, USB, Ethernet, DRAM, HBM, NAND), CPU architecture, SW/HW debug tools, and DFT solutions.

Education Requirements

Minimum BSEE or MS (Electrical Engineering) with 10+ years of related experience as stated in the posting.
