Job Title

Senior Staff Emulation Engineer

Role Summary

The Senior Staff Emulation Engineer will lead emulation strategy and delivery for complex SoC and subsystem projects within the Custom Compute and Storage (CCS) business unit. The role focuses on building and validating emulation models, enabling vendor platforms, driving bring-up and test-plan execution, and supporting software and system readiness prior to tape‑out.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience expectations: 5–7 years of emulation experience with a BS; 3–5 years with an MS or PhD.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include platform enablement, model development, validation, and cross-team collaboration to ensure pre‑silicon readiness.

  • Design and integrate complex subsystem emulation models and environments across platforms such as Veloce, ZeBu, and Palladium.
  • Drive emulation bring‑up activities: clock/reset sequencing, firmware boot, and system validation using pre‑silicon models.
  • Execute emulation test plans to support verification, performance analysis, software development, and system validation.
  • Debug complex SoC and subsystem issues spanning RTL, firmware, emulation platforms, and toolchain interactions.
  • Optimize emulation performance, including model partitioning, timing, and runtime efficiency.
  • Automate flows and improve productivity via scripting and tooling enhancements.
  • Collaborate with RTL design, verification, firmware teams, and EDA vendors to resolve technical issues and enable platform features.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Education details are summarized separately in the Education Requirements section below.

  • Hands-on experience building and developing emulation models on vendor platforms (Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens) is required.
  • Proficient with SystemVerilog and UVM.
  • Experienced in emulation bring‑up, reset sequencing, and firmware bring‑up on emulation hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of processor architecture, SoC components, interconnects, I/O protocols (PCIe, CXL, Ethernet), and memory interfaces (DDR, HBM).
  • Skilled in scripting and automation (Python, Perl, Tcl, UNIX shell).
  • Good programming ability in C++ and familiarity with ARM assembly.
  • Proven capability to define emulation strategy, develop test plans, and drive verification for large-scale products.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate across teams and vendors.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with 5–7 years of emulation experience; OR Master’s/PhD in a related field with 3–5 years of emulation experience. (This posting specifies degree-and-years combinations above.)
