Job Title
Senior Staff Emulation Engineer
Role Summary
Lead emulation strategy, platform enablement, and testplan execution for complex SoC and subsystem designs within the Emulation Center of Excellence (Custom Compute and Storage business unit).
Collaborate with RTL, verification, firmware teams and EDA vendors to bring up emulation, validate designs, and accelerate software and post-silicon readiness.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Posting indicates experience guidance: BS holders 5–7 years of emulation experience; MS/PhD holders 3–5 years.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include emulation model development, bring-up, validation, and cross-team debugging.
- Build and integrate complex subsystem emulation models and environments on platforms such as Veloce, ZeBu, and Palladium.
- Drive emulation bring-up activities including clock/reset sequencing, firmware boot, and system validation using pre-silicon models.
- Execute emulation test plans for verification, performance analysis, software development, and system validation.
- Debug SoC and subsystem issues across RTL, firmware, emulation platforms, and toolchains.
- Optimize emulation performance, model partitioning, timing, and runtime efficiency.
- Automate flows and improve productivity through scripting and tooling enhancements.
- Engage with EDA vendors to evaluate tools, resolve technical issues, and influence feature improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Hands-on experience developing emulation models and using emulation platforms from Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens.
- Experience with SystemVerilog and UVM.
- Proven emulation bring-up experience, including reset sequencing and firmware bring-up.
- Strong knowledge of processor architecture, SoC components, interconnect buses, I/O protocols (PCIe, CXL, Ethernet), and memory interfaces (DDR, HBM).
- Proficient scripting skills: Python, Perl, Tcl, and UNIX shell.
- Good programming skills in C++ and ARM assembly.
- Ability to define emulation strategy, platform requirements, and drive verification execution for large-scale products.
- Experience interfacing with EDA vendors and resolving toolchain issues.
- Ability to work independently, handle complex assignments, and collaborate across teams.
- May require eligibility to access export-controlled technology and related export license review.
Education Requirements
BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science (preferred experience: 5–7 years emulation experience); OR MS/PhD in a related technical field with 3–5 years emulation experience.
