Job Title

Senior Staff, Emulation Engineer

Role Summary

Work on pre-silicon emulation for connectivity SoCs to enable firmware bring-up, hardware/software co-validation, and system-level debug on Palladium, Veloce, and Zebu platforms. The role partners with design, verification, firmware, software, and post-silicon teams to ensure emulation drives program schedules and reduces silicon risk.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical expectation is 7+ years of relevant experience; lower years may be acceptable for candidates with an advanced technical degree.

Responsibilities

Execute emulation model bring-up, test development, and debug; build infrastructure and flows that enable firmware and system validation.

  • Bring up and maintain emulation models and test environments for connectivity SoC programs on Palladium, Veloce, and Zebu.
  • Implement platform configurations, transactors, speed bridges, protocol adapters, and firmware/software stacks for emulation use.
  • Develop and maintain HW/SW enablement flows, scripts, and automation to support RTL validation and firmware/driver development.
  • Collaborate with design, validation, firmware, and post-silicon teams to diagnose issues and improve validation coverage.
  • Engage with EDA and emulation hardware vendors to resolve tooling/platform issues and improve environment stability.
  • Identify and remove emulation bottlenecks and improve environment productivity, reliability, and utilization.

Requirements

Core technical skills and hands-on experience required for effective emulation engineering.

  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining emulation models and environments on one or more platforms: Palladium, Veloce, Zebu.
  • Experience with test planning, simulation, and debug in Verilog/SystemVerilog environments.
  • Knowledge of SoC development flows, emulation-based debug, and system-level validation.
  • Scripting and automation skills (Python, Perl, Tcl, and/or UNIX shell).
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with design, validation, firmware, and vendor teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and system-level debug skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience emulating networking devices or mixed-signal systems (PHY, Layer-2/Layer-3 functionality).
  • Familiarity with optical DSPs, high-speed Ethernet PHYs, or AEC/AOC enablement devices.
  • Experience improving emulation infrastructure or contributing to project-wide emulation tooling.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is listed as the baseline; advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are accepted with reduced experience expectations. The posting pairs degree level with experience expectations (e.g., Bachelor's + 7+ years; Master's/PhD + 3+ years).
