Job Title
Senior/Staff Embedded Application Engineer – RH850 Automotive Platform
Role Summary
Work on embedded real-time control solutions for automotive systems, focusing on integration of software and hardware on Renesas RH850-based platforms.
The role sits in a System Solution team supporting product validation, customer demonstrations, and global solution and sales teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and validating embedded control systems and debugging interactions between software, MCU peripherals, and power-switching hardware.
- Perform board bring-up, debugging, and validation on RH850-based hardware platforms.
- Develop and validate FOC and PI/PID-based real-time control algorithms.
- Implement PWM-based control logic (duty control, synchronization, timing constraints, dead-time, phase shift).
- Work with MCU peripherals: timers, ADC, DAC/comparators, CAN, peripheral interconnects.
- Debug and resolve control, timing, and integration issues across software and hardware boundaries using scopes, logic analyzers, and hardware debug tools.
- Support global solution and sales teams with technical guidance and demonstrations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role; nice-to-have items are noted separately.
-
Must-have: Strong experience in embedded C/C++ for real-time systems.
- Experience with board bring-up, HALs, and low-level MCU drivers on automotive MCUs (RH850 or equivalent).
- Practical knowledge of PI / PID control theory and tuning; experience implementing FOC algorithms.
- Hands-on experience with ADC, PWM, timers, interrupts, and PWM modulation techniques.
- Understanding of feedback signals and closed-loop control integration.
- Proven ability to debug across software and hardware (use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, hardware debug tools).
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with automotive domains (On-Board Chargers, AC‑DC/DC‑DC converters, xEV inverters, braking systems).
- Knowledge of Functional Safety standards such as ISO 26262.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
