Senior/Staff Embedded Application Engineer – RCar Platform

Role Summary

Drive development and integration of automotive and robotic applications on Renesas RCar SoCs. Work within a cross-functional engineering team to design reference solutions, perform system bring-up, and debug low-level firmware and drivers for heterogeneous Arm application and real-time cores.

Experience Level

Senior / Staff level. Several years of professional experience in embedded software, firmware, or system bring-up in automotive or robotics domains is expected (exact years not specified).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Lead cross-team design and implementation of reference automotive and robotic solutions on RCar SoCs.
• Develop application software, firmware, board support packages (BSP), and middleware for heterogeneous architectures (Arm application cores and real-time cores).
• Perform system bring-up and debug low-level drivers and hardware interfaces (Ethernet AVB/TSN, MIPI CSI-2, ISP, I2C, UART, GPT).
• Integrate and validate software stacks including Linux, ROS2, Zephyr, and FreeRTOS.
• Use version control and CI/CD tools and maintain containerized development workflows.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams to deliver reference designs and documentation.

Requirements

Core technical requirements and desirable skills:

• Must-have: Expert in C/C++ (Modern C++) and Python.
• Must-have: Hands-on development of applications, BSP, and middleware for embedded Linux and real-time OSes (ROS2, Zephyr, FreeRTOS).
• Must-have: Experience with system bring-up, driver development, and common hardware interfaces listed above.
• Must-have: Proficient with Git, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and familiar with GDB and hardware debuggers.
• Nice-to-have: Experience or knowledge in object detection, lane keeping, SLAM, sensor fusion, and automotive functional safety standards (ISO 26262).
• Nice-to-have: Prior experience with RCar or similar automotive SoCs and delivering reference solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
