Job Title

Senior/Staff Design Engineer, Memory Design

Role Summary

Design and optimize embedded memory circuits (SRAM, ROM, register files, TCAM) for high-speed, small-area, and low-power applications. Member of the Hardware Engineering team responsible for circuit design, verification, layout planning, and cross-functional optimization across advanced process nodes.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical expectations: Bachelor's +4+ years, Master's +3+ years, PhD +2+ years; generally 3–8+ years of relevant memory design experience depending on degree and role seniority.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include circuit design, analysis, verification, and layout coordination for embedded memories.

  • Define and improve circuits for high-speed, low-area, and/or low-power memory architectures.
  • Perform schematic capture, circuit simulation, detailed analysis of memory cells and major blocks, and margin verifications.
  • Develop and apply design methodology and systematic approaches to select memory circuits that meet performance and functional goals.
  • Define layout floorplan, provide EM/IR provisions, and conduct layout reviews to ensure designs meet expectations.
  • Work closely with CAD, modeling, and layout teams to optimize designs for different technology nodes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes.

  • Proven experience in memory design using FinFET/GAA technologies.
  • Experience with compiler-based and custom design flows for embedded memories (SRAM, ROM, register files, TCAM).
  • Solid knowledge of semiconductor device fundamentals, process variability, and their effects on memory design.
  • Strong understanding of memory model views and how they are used in system design.
  • Fluent verbal English communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn; able to collaborate across functions.

Nice to have: leadership on complex memory projects or advanced research experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years; OR PhD with 2+ years. Equivalent practical experience is accepted where noted.
