Job Title

Senior Staff Applications Engineer, Applications Engineering

Role Summary

Customer-facing applications engineer focused on deploying, debugging, and optimizing Synopsys emulation and prototyping platforms for ASIC and SoC verification. Work includes technical pre-sales evaluations, customer bring-up and performance tuning, and creating field-facing documentation.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience: 6–10 years in IC design, verification, emulation, or FPGA prototyping supporting real ASIC/SoC projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer engagements, technical evaluations, and cross-team collaboration to ensure successful emulation and prototyping deployments.

  • Deploy, configure, and bring up emulation platforms (ZeBu) and FPGA prototypes for customer verification environments.
  • Troubleshoot issues spanning RTL, testbenches, software stacks, and platform configuration; debug Verilog/VHDL and SystemVerilog testbenches.
  • Lead pre-sales proof-of-concept evaluations and demonstrate emulation capabilities on customer designs.
  • Optimize performance and debug bottlenecks in customer verification flows.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, and R&D to communicate customer requirements and field issues.
  • Produce technical content: application notes, reference designs, setup guides, and best-practice documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and share field knowledge to strengthen team capability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution in customer engagements.

  • Hands-on experience in IC design, verification, emulation, or FPGA prototyping supporting ASIC/SoC projects.
  • Deep understanding of verification methodologies (simulation, emulation, prototyping) and trade-offs.
  • Proficiency in HDLs (Verilog, VHDL) and strong experience with SystemVerilog for testbenches and assertions.
  • Working knowledge of C/C++ for software validation, firmware debug, or performance analysis.
  • Experience with hardware emulation platforms (Palladium, Zebu, Veloce) or equivalent FPGA/virtual platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for issues that span RTL, verification environments, and platform integration.
  • Excellent communication skills for customer-facing technical discussions and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex problems and escalate appropriately when needed.
  • Preferred: pre-sales/proof-of-concept experience and experience producing field documentation or reference designs.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
