Senior Specialist, Electrical Engineering - FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Develop, simulate, verify and integrate FPGA firmware for flight avionics at L3Harris Airborne Solutions in Palm Bay, FL. Lead design efforts, mentor engineers, and support system-level requirements, lab verification, production release and customer support.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

Lead FPGA firmware design and integration across the full development lifecycle.

• Decompose system and box-level requirements into FPGA specifications and map simulation results to system requirements.
• Architect and implement digital solutions on FPGA platforms and integrate VHDL into multiple FPGA families.
• Create system and module block diagrams, flow diagrams, and design concepts; enforce consistent firmware development processes.
• Drive bench-level system integration with hardware, software, and other FPGA modules; perform lab verification and qualification support.
• Lead small teams of firmware engineers through coding, simulation, code analysis, and circuit card design support.
• Support proposals, program planning, design reviews, production releases, and customer troubleshooting.
• Maintain version control practices to track FPGA baseline changes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security and leadership capabilities. Education and formal experience levels are listed under Education Requirements.

• Proven experience coding in VHDL and integrating FPGA-based modules.
• Strong FPGA architecture knowledge (Altera/Intel or Xilinx families) and experience with SoC devices (Kintex UltraScale/UltraScale+, Virtex UltraScale/UltraScale+, Zynq UltraScale).
• Experience with simulation and verification, including complex block and top-level transaction-based models and Siemens toolset for FPGA verification.
• Familiarity with high-speed serial protocols (PCI Express, SRIO) and Ethernet, including 10G designs; knowledge of network protocols such as IPv6 and UDP.
• Experience with control and memory interfaces: I2C, SPI, RS-232/422, DDR3/DDR4.
• Ability to lead and mentor engineers, work semi-autonomously, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Bench-level integration and lab verification skills for circuit card assemblies.
• Version control best practices and tools (Subversion, Git, etc.).
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship may be required to obtain clearance).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus minimum 6 years of relevant experience; OR graduate degree plus minimum 4 years of relevant experience; OR, in lieu of a degree, minimum 10 years of related experience. The role expects an Electrical Engineering / FPGA engineering background. Equivalent practical experience as stated above is acceptable per the posting.
