Job Title
Senior Software Engineer, Networking
Role Summary
Work on data forwarding and offload software for Ethernet switching platforms and SmartNICs (BlueField DPU). Implement and maintain components of Cumulus Linux that translate control-plane constructs into hardware data-plane behavior.
Join the Networking Business Unit to design, develop, and deliver routing, ACL, QoS, NAT, EVPN/VxLAN, and related forwarding features for modern data center networks.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of software development experience in networking, data forwarding, or SmartNIC offload.
Responsibilities
Deliver production-quality data-forwarding and offload features across switching platforms and SmartNICs; collaborate across teams; lead larger feature efforts.
- Design, implement, test, and maintain forwarding and offload features: routing, ACLs, QoS, CLAG, NAT, policy-based routing, VxLAN-EVPN, etc.
- Develop software for Ethernet switching platforms and SmartNIC offload according to the product roadmap.
- Collaborate with architects, QA, support, and product teams on feature definition, releases, and defect resolution.
- Lead and guide cross-functional teams on large feature developments and take ownership of delivery (for senior levels).
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.
Must-have
- 10+ years of software development experience in data forwarding on Ethernet switching silicon and/or offload on SmartNICs.
- Strong, validated experience in C programming and systems-level coding.
- Demonstrated problem solving, design, coding, and debugging skills in networking software.
- Proven experience leading feature development and delivering independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to rapidly learn new requirements and prototype/implement solutions.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with merchant silicon for switching/routing and accelerating packet processing on switching platforms.
- Contributions to SONiC, SwitchDev, or Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI).
- Experience with virtualized networking, SR-IOV, container networking, NAT, firewall, and load balancer functionality.
- Knowledge of Linux kernel networking, control-plane technologies such as EVPN and segment routing.
- Participation in open-source networking projects and Python programming skills.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field β or equivalent practical experience.
