Senior Software Engineer - LLVM/Compilers
Role Summary
Work on LLVM compiler technology to improve performance on Arm architectures (SVE, SME) and contribute upstream to the open-source LLVM community. Collaborate with internal teams to align on priorities and deliver solutions that leverage Arm architecture features.
Note: No relocation package is available. If visa sponsorship is required, Arm will cover sponsorship costs for the employee only; spouse/dependant fees are the candidate's responsibility.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, upstream contribution, and cross-team collaboration to maximise performance:
- Lead and influence LLVM compiler development for Arm and upstream projects; define optimization strategies.
- Contribute code and reviews to the LLVM open-source ecosystem and represent Arm in the community.
- Analyse and improve application and benchmark performance on Arm hardware; identify bottlenecks and optimizations.
- Mentor engineers within the LLVM team and in the broader community.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure technical alignment and deliver integrated solutions supporting Arm’s roadmap.
- Improve development processes, profiling methodologies, and performance benchmarking practices.
Requirements
Essential skills and practical experience required for the role.
- Strong programming skills in C/C++.
- Proven experience contributing to the LLVM open-source community (code commits and reviews).
- Hands-on experience analysing performance bottlenecks and performance tuning.
- Experience with low-level software or hardware-facing development (compilers, debuggers, models, or similar).
- Proficiency in software development practices: coding, testing, debugging, and code review.
- Effective communicator able to influence internal and external partners; collaborative across teams and sites.
- Proactive with strong problem-solving capabilities.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Profile Guided Optimization (PGO).
- Familiarity with computer architecture and Linux performance analysis tools.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, build systems, and CI.
